Power Station and Grid

This project won Shawnee State University and Prof. Thomas Stead first place in the Visualization Category of the 2010 Federal Virtual World Challenge sponsored by the joint US military training command. The challenge was open to designers from anywhere in the world. We chose to design around orientation and training for a regional power station in Gallia County. The President of AEP Ohio and his staff reviewed the project and were very pleased with the potential. You can see videos etc. of the project on it's blog at:

or you can visit it directly at:

Hydro Electric Field Trip

Field trips on every subject are financially difficult and difficult to arrange. Most hydroelectric plants won't let your students walk through the turbines as they work but ours does! Virtual experiences not only convey scale, but also allow the impossible.

Stirling Solar Generator

OK  it's a pretty hot seat.  Experience the potential of solar power in our solar, wind and water classroom. We have a Stirling Solar Generator, a trough generator and new types of solar panels for you to experience.

Wind Power Experience

Experience the scale of a full scale 1.5 MW wind turbine. Take the elevator to the top and you'll probably be very surprised just how large these wind turbines are. At the base there is a working model.

Sea Level Rise Exhibit

Many, if not most, climate experts are concerned about possible sea level rise from global warming attributed to the dramatic increases in carbon emissions. This experience helps students experience the possible outcomes.

Solar Satellite System Environments (3 parts)

This green environment allows the viewer the experience of converting a coal fired plant to a solar microwave plant that produces the same output with zero emissions. We partnered with a WIRED Grant and Prof. Don Flournoy (d.flournoy@ohio.edu) from Ohio University to visualize this interactive experience. Visitors can decommission the coal plant while replacing it with the developing technology by pushing buttons that activate various phases.

Universe Virtual Classroom

When you want to feel really, really small stand in the center of our Universe environment.

Solar System Environment

The real strength of hyper web development is that it is an experience as opposed to just information. In this classroom we played to that strength by developing concepts that allow the experiencer to feel the scale of our planetary system in several ways. One part starts with a 1cm  "sun" (one half the size of a BB) then scales the orbits of the planets to that sun. students are shocked when they find that the orbit of Pluto is quite a walk (about 300 ft.). Another nearby experience scales the planets against a sun that is 10 meters in diameter. An animated reason for the seasons experience animates a 3-D Earth for a year around the Sun and more. Virtual Marine Classroom

Many photos of marine environments are available as are 2-D websites. In the Virtual Marine Classroom students are exposed to the scale of the underwater environment complete with programmed, animated creatures that are designed to provide a thrilling, educational  but safe virtual field trip that provides the holistic recall of movement through 3-D space.
